If you are using Windows Vista with Media Player 11 and you are having difficulty playing video. You may need to make Windows Media Player your default player. Below are instructions on making this change.
In Windows XP, when you start Windows Media Player and open the options screen there is a tab where you can choose the file type associations. In Windows Vista, however, you will not find this tab. In Windows Vista; file associations are changed through a control panel applet.
Start by clicking on the Windows Logo button (Start), then click on "Control Panel", and then click on "Programs":

Next click on "Default Programs":

Then click on "Set your default programs":

Select "Windows Media Player" from the list on the left, and then you will have two options:
1. You can either click on "Set this program as default": this will associate all the file types that can be opened by Windows Media Player to be opened with with that program.
2. Or you can click on "Choose defaults for this program": this allows you to choose the file types

When you select the second option; simply select all the file types that you want to be associated to Windows Media Player and click on "Save".
